Preparing for a Boat Dive: Treat yourself well. If you tend to get seasick, do things to cut down on that chance of ruining your day. I have a little list that should help.

The first rule might be the hardest to do. Try not to party too much. I know that I might be asking a lot here (being here in a partying paradise and home of spring break), but you can alway party after the major diving.

Second, get to bed early and get a good night's sleep. I said sleep, not just go to bed. Be well rested. Getting to bed early should be easier since you won't be out partying all night !

Third, be well hydrated. Drink plenty of liquids well in advance, and again , not the alocholic kind. During your boat trip constantly be drinking your favorite beverage (careful here).

Fourth, eat well. Treat yourself and your divebuddy to a great dinner at one of the many killer restaurants here on the Island. Also bring some good munchies on the boat, stay well fueled. Your body has got to live on something, this is the time to treat your engine to premium and not just regular.

Fith: Use your seasick medications -- just buying them and then forgetting them won't work .

You should be in good shape when you get onto the boat, because you'll want to be in good shape when you get off. And after the diving is done, get together with your new dive friends and go party and tell dive stories, you have my permission, and oh, bring me along, OK? (I've been known to do a bit of partying myself)

tug Texas Artificial Reef

Dive the Tug ! (a wreck dive) -- 7 miles SE of the Brazos Santigo Pass Jetties. So close, yet so far ( to swim to anyway) -- but a short boat trip!

This is a great openwater/offshore ocean dive for those who tend to get seasick. A quick boat trip out in the morning against sometimes no waves, and back with a following sea. A one tank dive with no surface interval at the dreaded anchor; this is when most people dread it, and never get the chance to enjoy the rest of the day.

< This is a picture of the tug boat before it became part of the artificial reef- dive through the holes and hatches, explore the engine room and you never know what kind of creatures may have taken up residence in its holds

 jetties The Jetties

both sides, north and south, very different from each other . Favorite among locals.

A place that everyone just runs on by here at the jetties is one of my favorites. North jettties, surfside, starting in knee deep water, just hug along the rocks inside the secret channel that is cut out that not many knows about. Be careful not to cross the path of the fishermens' lines. Remember, we all have the liberty of enjoying the jetties. besides, you don't have to go far or fast here, there is alot to see, if you go slow and peek inside all the crevases and holes the jetties provide. Hint: the slower you go, the less spooked the fish are. Moving fast makes the fish think they are about to be someone's lunch and take off. It is a fish eat fish world here, they get to be either breakfest, lunch or dinner sooner or later , and I think they prefer later, just a hunch. (or did I mean lunch?)

lib ship
Liberty Ship

A long way but worth it !! Out of sight , but not not out of mind (to the wreck diver). It's hard to believe somethig this big can be down there.

rig The Rigs

Even farther than the liberty ships ! The best diving that can be had say some.

Here is a place where you can plan your dive and dive your plan, if you don't get too excited and blow it (so to speak). The entire water column is there to be had. Your first dive can go all the way to the bottom if you like, the second somewhere in between, and the third right near the surface! There is something to see and do everywhere here. The fish live on every floor in this underwater skyscraper !

Seven and a half fathom reef

There is more written about this place than there are divers enjoying it. It is seldom visited because of its location. Here one will find lots and lots of fish, a great spearfishing honey hole. You know you've found the spot when you drop the anchor and you notice all the triggerfish everywhere. Once underwater though, you will find that it is home to all kinds of other critters also!

  Secret Spots

We won't give you the gps coordinates, but we'll take you there !
